Drill to Earth's Core Dungeons and Structures

Drill to Earth's Core dungeons and structures: boss rooms, Spider Dungeons, the Mineshaft, Vampire Mansion and Goblin's Arena, and what each one holds.

Last checked Sources

Drill to Earth's Core dungeons are the mazes beside the tunnel where most of a run's loot waits. Fandom's Structures page says a random structure spawns about every 7 km, usually in the gap between a little wall and a large wall: most often a dungeon, a Mineshaft or a Vampire Mansion. Fandom rates each from one to five, and the harder ones only spawn from a set layer down.

Fandom's Layers and Dungeons pages put the first dungeon at 1 km, in the Grass Layer; its Structures page says 3 km and calls it guaranteed. It is where a run's first scrap and chests come from.

How Drill to Earth's Core Dungeons Work

A dungeon is a maze of corridors with cells along the sides. Fandom's Dungeons page says every corridor and cell has scrap to pick up, and cells in Level 2 and 3 dungeons can hold a chest. The gate shows the level as red diamonds.

The boss room is at the end of a Level 1 dungeon and anywhere in a Level 2 or 3 one; the game announces when a player finds it. Inside are three locked chests and three waves of enemies, the last one a boss. In a Level 1 dungeon the waves are goblins and the boss is a Goblin Brute. Clear all three and the chests open. Fandom counts six or seven scrap in a Level 1 dungeon, and its Structures page lists Goblin Lords and the Goblin Lord Crown in Level 2 dungeons.

Prisoners and Companions

Now and then a dungeon cell holds a prisoner dressed as a friend of the driver. Hold Free Prisoner for 15 seconds and it joins you as a companion that fights beside you and draws hits until it dies (Fandom's Dungeons page).

Spider Dungeons

A Spider Dungeon is a spider lair rated four of five, harder than a Spider Tunnel. Stand in the circle under the gate to go in together within 15 seconds; anyone late can still enter at the gate with E. Fandom's Spider Dungeons page lists three waves: plain spiders, which still roll the layer's mutations, then Toxic spiders whose bite takes 3 HP a second for 5 seconds, then the biggest wave, of Void spiders with more health and damage.

The boss is the Fire Widow. She runs to one of four platforms and throws Burning Cobwebs that slow you and burn 2% of your max HP a second for 3 seconds; the webs last 5 seconds. Kill her and five high-tier chests unlock. Fandom suggests fighting her in melee with the Life Steal upgrade from the upgrades page. Its Structures page calls the boss the Red Widow, with a Red Widow Crown as loot.

The Mineshaft

The Mineshaft is an abandoned tunnel full of ore, rare ore included, so bring a pickaxe strong enough to mine it. Minecarts and the ground inside can hold a pickaxe, dynamite or a mine helmet, and after two or three sections a little cave behind a rock pile holds up to five ores.

After a minute inside there is a 25% chance a Watcher appears, and it kills anyone who is not looking at it. The 26 September update removed the spiders that used to live here.

Other Structures

  • Vampire Mansion (four of five, from the Clay Layer): vampires, with Vampire Keys and chests as loot.
  • Goblin's Arena (five of five, from the Crystal Layer): the hardest structure, with Goblin Knights and Goblin Champions, and Champion's Armor as loot.
  • Spider Tunnel (one of five, from the Dirt Layer): spiders and chests.
  • Drill Crash: three items or chests, guarded by goblins.
  • Furnace Post: a 10% spawn that smelts iron and gold ore into bars.
  • Church: about one per 300 km past 100 km, where you save items and gear to your Backpack and Crate. See the church guide.

Rest Stops

A rest stop waits at the start of each layer. Fandom's Rest Stop page lists a shop, a trading post, a crafting shack and a coin shop, plus a teleport and a quest board. The shop's stock is random, and rare items get more likely the deeper you go. The trading post buys your loot. The crafting shack, run by Crazy Zack, crafts gear that makes the drill or the team stronger.

The trading post's NPC also gives "Explore a structure" quests that pay coins when you step inside the named structure, with a 5-minute wait before the next one (Fandom's Structures page). The Toxic Layer's rest stop is the exception: the Void has swallowed it, though its shop still sells a Golden Medkit.
